A BLIND PUZZLE - Episode 6 and 7

* Two weeks later *

” Our birthday was yesterday and you guys still haven’t told us what our suprise is.”

Diane who was getting so impatient questioned dad and mom while on the dinner.

Who wouldn’t be nervous?. They keep saying they have big news for us but jeez, it’s taking too long to even guess correctly.

Yesterday was our birthday and there were lots to gifts from friends and well wishers.

I shouldn’t also forget the part where Nelson asked me to be his girlfriend. That same yesterday.

Remembering how everything played out , I can’t help the butterflies in my stomach.

“And you said yes?”

Dianne had querried the moment I told her.

” Sure. I said yes. ” I smiled so bright.

I really like Nelson. I didn’t know he felt same for me too… So when he proposed, I felt so helpless.

” Good for you too. ”

She shoved past me.

Something didn’t feel right.
She wasn’t happy about the news and she couldn’t even hide it.

” Dianne. ”

I tried calling her but she ignored. She just walked out without a word.

” Okay… Here’s the news. ”

Dad’s voice broke me out of my thought.

” Your mom and I… Have decided to fly you guys abroad to further your studies. ”

Our mouths dropped.!

The next was followed by a shout from Dianne. ” This is so coooll…” She giggled.

I wasn’t finding this funny at all.
Not one bit.

” But dad..

I tried to object but he cut me off

” As we speak, your visas are ready and you depart in a month time. This is me and your mom saying a big happy birthday to you guys.”

” What?” I frowned..

” Why should we travel out to study when we have good universities here in USA. Dad , mom, please have a rethink. Okay.”

I tried to make them see reasons but…

” It’s super cool dad. I can’t wait to go out of this country. ”

” Dad. Don’t you think it would have been better if you guys told us before now?”
Roy asked..

To me, I think it’s only Dianne who is excited about the news.

This is deepshit.

” That’s why it’s called a suprise silly boy. ” He replied with a laugh.
” Lest I forget. You get to school in England,… While your sisters school in Canada. We know how much you’ve always wanted to go to England. You should be happy about the news. ”

A small smile creased Roy’s lips.

I think he’s buying into their idea as well.

No. Not possible.

” Dianne and Roy should use their visas.. I’ll school her. I am not complaining. ” My voice showed how displeased I was about the idea. I made sure not to hide it.

” Rosella…

” Someone isn’t happy because he’s gonna leave her new boyfriend behind. Such a waste.”

Dianne yawned , digging her fork into her meat.

“Excuse me?” With a deep frown, I turned my gaze at her.

” Boyfriend?… Rosella is that true?”
Mom asked.

I looked away,
” Yes… Well he’s not really because I have a boyfriend now. It’s because trying to adapt entirely to different environment is not a cool idea. ”
I tried to explain but ….

” We appreciate that you now have a boyfriend whom you care so much about. But you should know that your future matters most. This is your future. Get used to it. ”

I swallowed hard.

I don’t think they’ll listen to me this time around.

Dianne kept humming and I find that quite irritating since we’re actually on the dinner.

But who cares anyway.

I don’t feel okay right now.

” What?… ”

His voice rang out through the phone.

” Why would your parents decide that,?” He went on asking.

Sniffing, I shook my head .

” I really don’t know Nelson”

A soft sigh followed by silence. I bet he was having a deep thought right now.

” How long did he say you have to the trip?”

” A month. ”

” Wow. ”
It came out from his lips almost like a whisper.

” You know what?… Why don’t you just go to bed. Then by morning we’ll talk Better. Don’t get yourself worked up with such news okay. I’ll call you tomorrow. I promise.”

” Yeah. ”

Beep.

I ended the call.

I dropped my phone beside me when the door suddenly opened. Revealing Dianne.

Looking away, .. I shut my eyes with my body buried into the duvet.

She did what she was best that – not talking to me.
She picked whatever she needed in the room before walking out.

I released the breath I didn’t know I was holding.

And just like Nelson assured, I didn’t let the news bother me too much as I slowly drift into Oblivion.

The next day at noon….

” Oh my gosh! Cheers …. To Canada?”

The four of them burst into heavy laughter.

” Cheers to Canada!” They all chorused before taking a sip from their various drinks.

” I’m so jealous right now. ”
Joella drooled..

” I’m so happy for you. You’re so lucky to have such cool parents” Tina seconded with a squeel.

” Yeah right?… I’m lucky ain’t I?” Dianne giggled while Laura only swallow hard at her remark.

” So….. Let’s celebrate huh!… More drinks please. Bills on me.” Dianne ordered.

It was her first time tasting alcoholic and for a starter, she is a fast learner.

” I just wish we’ll never travel. I wish dad and mom will just change their mind.”

Rosella said, .. her head resting on Nelson’s shoulder as they both stared at the moving waters.
It was a beautiful beach. The cool evening made everything a better taste.

” I’m sad.” Nelson truthfully admitted,

” I can’t believe I just asked you out two days ago and now you wanna leave… Just like that?’

” Your parents are very close to mine. What if you tell them to convince my dad about the decision. What do you think?”

I raised my face a little to stare at his blurry gaze on mine.
It didn’t sound like a good idea.

” You know what?..”

He pulled me closer and placed a warm kiss on my forehead., Sending cold chills all over me.

” Let’s just enjoy the time we have with us. Then we’d make a promise that no matter the distance,… We’ll never leave each other…”

” Is that a pinky promise?”

” Yes. ” He nods Makin me smile so wide.

Deep down I really wished he could come with us.
But wasn’t that selfish of me?

” Rosella..”
He called… His voice extraordinarily low.

” Yes?”

Tilting my gaze to Meet his, .. he did the unexpected.

He crashed his lips on mine. Leaving me in total shock.

I let him suckle on my lower lips while I did nothing to resist.

I mean,… I was so lost.
This is my first kiss and I don’t even know how to kiss back.

He suddenly stopped.

” I’m sorry I…

” It’s fine.”

I looked away. Feeling so shy.

Placing my head back on his shoulder. I let the silence descend on us while he played with my fingers.

This new feeling I’m developing for Nelson just keep throwing me in deep confusion.

I really don’t want to go.

” Goodnight. ”
He kissed my cheeks before taking a u-turn back to his car..

I waved at him till he finally drove off.

No one needed to ask how my first date with Nelson went. Cause it’s clearly written all over my face.

I walked inside. A satisfied smile plastered on my face..

Diane’s pov.

Staring from my room,.. I saw them.. right through the window.

” Just look at her.”
I scoffed.
Watching how excited she was the moment Nelson placed a peck on her lips.

I just couldn’t help the way I was feeling right now.

He asked her out?… And she told me without mincing words… Didn’t she care about how I’d feel?

Well at least,… I’ve got friends who understands me better than anyone else.

I really like Nelson. But it’s all going to waste Because he doesn’t belong to me.

He chose my sister over me.

How pathetic.
Scoffing out, I moved away from my window and walked back to the bed.

The two certainly deserve each other.

Beep.
My phone suddenly rang out as a message popped in.

” Let’s meet.”

But we only just parted few moments ago.

Hmmmm..

My gaze drifted to the time..

It’s past seven.

Dad and mom isn’t back yet.

” Okay. Where?”

” K-cee jam”

” On my way”…

I texted back dashing out of my room..
I did everything carefully so Rosella not Roy would notice.
